The Virginia Vaulters are a gymnastic display team comprised of   students of Virginia Park Elementary. As well some members of our group are Junior High aged students who formerly attended our school and who have remained interested in being an active member. Over the past 25 years the Vaulters have performed over 120 shows at over 90 different venues within and beyond the borders of the former Avalon East School District. For example, we have performed in places like Bay Roberts/Carbonear, Marystown/Burin, Gambo/Gander and Grand Falls-Windsor. 

The members of the Vaulters are chosen from the general student body of Virginia Park after participating in a 10 week gymnastic unit as part of their regular physical education program. During this gymnastic unit skilled individuals are identified and selected for the enrichment program that the Vaulters provide.

The show itself has grown over the years going from a short display for parents at year’s end to a fast-paced, highly charged 40-minute performance. The members of the group perform skills learned as part of the regular curriculum and are encouraged to perform the more advanced and challenging skills they’ve learned in practice with the group. The show is comprised of individual and group skills that take place on the floor and over vaulting boxes. 

In order to remain as a Virginia Vaulter the members of this group are expected to give their best efforts towards their schoolwork and to comply with school rules and routines. As there are many students who express interest in becoming members, this group provides the students of Virginia Park Elementary a goal to work toward as well as a place where they
can experience success and personal accomplishment.

Once again this year the group will continue to  train for performances in our own school and district. New members may be added once the gymnastic unit mentioned earlier is complete. There is always the possibility that an out of town trip will be added to the slate of performances. These trips are usually one or two night adventures that we look forward to as a culminating activity for all our hard work and dedication.
